Should Dogs Be the Only Service Animals Allowed in Public?

Updated: Apr 22, 2020

Should dogs be the only service animals allowed in public? Well, think of it this way. Should boys be the only ones allowed to play video games? Should girls be the only ones allowed to play sports? It is like other animals are being excluded. Why shouldn't other service animals be allowed to take care of their masters just as well as dogs? First of all, some people are worried about the animals giving away diseases. But "Helping Hands" and other service animal companies would not assign animals that have or give away illnesses. If they carelessly assigned animals that had diseases, it would cause chaos. They would be worsening their master instead of strengthening them. They would not do that because they would get sued. If an animal had an illness, it would not even be considered for training. It would get rejected because of its illness. Next, how would people with service animals other than dogs get food and water? They would not be allowed inside the store. If someone had a service monkey and tried to go to the store for their everyday needs, would everyone just let them starve? And all because the person had a monkey. And not just any monkey, but a service monkey! In an article called "Service Animal Laws," a man with a snake tried to go into a cafe. The snake was his service animal. He wasn't allowed inside the cafe because the owners did not like the thought of a snake on their property. Third, no animal is assigned to a home without full training. They would have trained for taking care of their master all the time. They wouldn't cause any trouble in public places. They'd be too busy taking care of their owner. In a video called "Monkey College," monkeys wore diapers to train them not to make dirt in random places. Also, they were trained nonstop on how to operate random things. They completed the tasks in three different stages, which are "The Cubicle, the B-Room, and the Apartment." In each one, the level of difficulty for everyday tasks increases. The monkeys learn how to change CDs, scratch itches on peoples' faces, move their master's hands, push up glasses, get food out of cupboards, and everything else we do every day. Finally, dogs are loved above any other animal by the majority of the world. If someone sees a service dog, but does not see their service dog label, they might try to pet it. Service animals shouldn't be pet because they could become tame. If they became tame, they wouldn't listen to any commands. It would always expect a treat or a belly rub the next time someone told it to do something. If a seeing-eye dog was tamed from someone petting them, and their master tried to cross the street, the dog wouldn't be paying attention. That would not end well. Other animals, such as snakes, are less likely to get tame because not very many people would want to pet it. There are many other reasons why dogs shouldn't be the only service animals allowed in public, so many that I cannot list them all. Animals are all different, yet so similar. Dogs shouldn't be the star of everything just because they're good listeners. Other animals are good too. That's why they're known as service animals, not pets, and we should trust them.
